Healing Hospital The tradition of healing in many cultures goes hand in hand with spirituality and religion. With the advent of western medicine, the factors of mind and spirit were sidelined from the medical care. Western medicine gives much emphasis to biological aspects of a person and separated spiritual aspects from health care. Various studies reveal that spirituality plays an important role in the healing process. Spiritual practices may generate optimism and hope, sense of relaxation, increase coping skills, and reduce depression and anxiety. By reducing the stressors, spirituality helps to enhance immunity, cardiovascular, hormonal and nervous systems.(“Spirituality,” 2011). Healing hospitals emerged to provide comprehensive healing experience of body, mind and spirit.. The healing hospital paradigm is aiming to create a hospital environment that enhances the overall well being of patient including their emotional, and spiritual concerns. Migration from the traditional caring to the new paradigm demands transformation in the hospital design, workers culture, occupational responsibilities and perspectives. This paper is aiming to examine the components of a healing hospital and study the challenges and barriers in creating a healing environment. Three major components of a healing hospital are as follows: Healing Environment: Creating a healing environment is one of the components of a healing hospital. Without a doubt, a noisy and confusing hospital environment makes a patient not only worried and helpless but also increase his blood pressures. Studies have shown that there is a strong linkage between physical environment of hospitals and health outcomes. Many of our hospitals were not designed to promote healing for patients and for their loved ones. The scenes in many of our hospitals are very depressing and in some cases even frightening because
