Cristiana Hampton MUS 105-04 Marva Watson 10/10/2013 Music Event Report: Apple Festival and the Gospel Sing On a beautiful Wednesday in September my home town hosted the Murphysboro Apple Festival. While helping my dad prepared and sell food in his concession the programs began around five thirty. As the programs started I watched Apple Fest goers the provided bleachers and their personal lawn chairs. The mayor introduced the ceremony giving an over view of what the evening had in store. The first performances were by a couple of blue grass bands who performed with non-orchestral instruments such as the banjo and the harmonica.
All of the different displays come together to form a very unique holiday celebration. It includes lavish dinners and balls, and elaborate parties. Mardi Gras begins forty seven days before Easter so it can occur on any Tuesday from February 3rd through March 9th. It always starts on a Tuesday right before Ash Wednesday and has become known as Fat Tuesday, is practiced in other European countries in which similar festivities take place. Most people barbeque chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, ribs, and much more, but everyone has king cakes which are only in Louisiana. The smell of the people barbequing is marvelous. Everyone has an abundance of food; therefore no one goes hungry and maybe have enough for leftovers the next day. After everything is over; the floats and eating, people pack their chairs, towels, bags of beads, barbeque pits and head on home after an exhaustive day. When they get home they take the beads out the bags and keep the ones they like and throw the rest in the bag, and the little kids look through the bags to find toys that they can play with.
