Harvest Day Festival Harvest celebration is one of the biggest and oldest events that are celebrated by the human race, its roots are going time long ago in the past. It represents the happiness and richness of the people that they will have food on the table for their families for the next year. Every year on the last Sunday of October in Craiova, a famous city for his agriculture, but in the same time with a powerful automotive industry, we celebrate Annual Harvest Day. The festival is starting in the morning in downtown, at City Hall Plaza and after that we continuing in the night, after sunset with a big family party. Harvest Day Festival is hosted by the Merchants Committee of the Craiova Country Chamber of Commerce and is sponsored by local companies. First part of the festival is begins in front of City Hall Plaza early in the morning and are characterized by food vendors that prepare traditional food and drink, antiques and crafts vendors, and a big parade. The sidewalks of Victory Avenue are full of vendors that arrange the tents, the tables and chairs for people that will come to eat traditional food. First visitors start to appear in the plaza. They are old people that wake up earlier and want to speak about this new event. The merchants start the traditional barbecues that are fuel by hot coals. They prepare great traditional food – sheep meatballs with garlic and special sausage; as well they prepare pork, beef, lamb and chicken barbecues, hot vine and palinka, a kind of distillated plum drink. The food smell is spread in whole plaza, calling people for eating. Artists, craftsmen, special store-wide and sidewalk sales, children's activities and entertainment throughout the day offers something for everyone.
