I was not surprised, but very disappointed when I received notification of my Academic Probation. I met with the Dean and explained the situation to him as well. My first year at the University of Richmond proved to be a very difficult experience for me and my grades suffered as a result. I am certainly not attempting to make excuses for my poor academic performance, but would like to explain the circumstances. As a freshman, I understood that the rigors of taking 18hrs credit hours of class work would be challenging.
My older brother helped me get things worked out with the head coach. Then I got into a weights class and got ready for next fall. Once the team knew that I was going to play football the boys were telling me how they were going to make me quite after the first day of practice. C.J. a guy in my grade told me, he was going to hit me so hard that I was going to quite the first practice.
If you don’t do the work, how do you expect to get good grades? Study at least 30 minutes a day, and twice on the subject you’re having a hard time in. Repeating a grade is one of the most embarrassing things in high school. Taking the same class you took previously, but with younger students. Of course you’re going to get teased, picked on, and called stupid.
Capitan Mark Kelly Ever since I was a young girl I have always had great dreams and high expectations for myself. Anytime I was asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I would quickly reply” a lawyer” As the years went by I still had that goal in mind, but I began to realize that I was not exactly Ivy League material. Though I did work really hard in my classes, I was still at best average. During my junior year I took my SAT’s, and cried when I got my scores back. For many years I was scared to go to college because I thought I wasn’t college material.
Mario Ivan Alvarado Personal Statement As many people, I've gone though tons of experiences that built the person I am today. I feel the things that really impacted my life is sports. Football for example, I use to never do my homework or study or get involved in any school type functions. But thanks to sports I've really turned myself around. During freshman year I never kept track of anything, except for friends.
Attending High School is challenging in a way where you don’t know who you are have bad influence’s and as well good and you know what is good and bad for you. I have attended Gadsden High for the last past three years going to my fourth year and last, my grades have been up and down stress is the major thing when you are a senior and you had failed when you were a freshmen leaving all the things to last minute. I’ve failed f previously because I didn’t even care for my future so I just didn’t do anything I didn’t care if I passed or fail but when you are going into older age you see you’re self-different and you start getting prepared for what is called the “Real World”! You start changing you see you’re future starting to prepare for it looking at what you want to become to succeed in life be someone and for making your parents proud of you for them to see you finally did
Harley Hix[->0] From the experiences of others, I always expected college to be a challenge, and now that I have started my education their shared experiences are true. Every person that attended college that I talked to told me that the first year is one of the hardest. Keeping that in mind, it was no surprise that my first semester has been difficult. One of the hardest changes in my life was moving away to college. Now that my first semester is almost over it's been a learning experience for me.
He used the football team as an example to demonstrate the importance of the slogan. He mentioned to David, Brian and Eric, members of the school’s football team: “… you play football. You already know it takes discipline to win”. This showed the class the importance of discipline to achieving success. The school’s football team had not won a game in two years, so this statement held even more importance and grabbed the class’s attention.
The Future of Students Equals Change in Everyone The American people make excuses over and over about why our children are struggling in school, but the true question we need to ask is: why aren’t we doing enough to make a change? A few years ago the elementary school that my children attend had implemented a dual language program. After four years, my children were fluent in Spanish. This program was doing so well, that ninety eight percent of the children in the program tested out gifted. Unfortunately somewhere down the line, the school board members at the district, and state level didn’t think the program was worth keeping.
Student athlete roles have always been a problem. Some people say these athletes shouldn’t even be in school because their grades aren’t high enough. Others see a more sensitive view of the topic. I experienced this topic first hand from middle school though high school and for about a week of college. I believe it really is a problem.
