Nothing can be achieved if one does not work hard enough for it. To gain something great, there is an equally great effort required. There are many examples of legendary personalities in this world who have strived hard to get where they are; to get the recognition and success they deserve. But all that they achieved has been the result of their hard work and diligence. The probability of someone achieving success and recognition whilst sitting idle are next to zero. Where a fortunate turn of events may help a person get closer to success, it can most definitely not be the sole reason of their success; it is hard work and not mere fate that makes one achieve the greatness everyone desires. A person makes his own fate; fate should not make a person. There are hardly, if any, cases where luck is the sole reason to the right path. An individual should have the capacity to recognize their own abilities and potential and use them accordingly to achieve goals they possibly could not if they depended solely on fate. Hard work is always needed; one cannot expect good results with mere luck.
One great example of someone who has strived hard for his goals is Thomas Edison. His is the story no one can forget. It took him ten thousand attempts after which he created the greatest invention of all time- the light bulb. As Thomas Edison’s famous quote goes, “I have not failed. I have just found ten thousand ways that won’t work.” (inventors.about.com) Following the light bulb, his other great inventions include the phonograph and motion picture camera. Even with his other two inventions, he was faced with a lot of difficulties. For instance, in his motion picture camera Edison tried to combine sound along with the motion picture.
