HAPPINESS IN THE CONTEXT OF MONEY

A quick stroll down the streets reveals where happiness truly lays, money. Sadness and anguish can be seen on the faces of some people who cannot be considered upper class because of their family income. According to Shirley Smith, “The gift of happiness is elusive, but tangible. You cannot seek to find that which makes you happy for happiness comes from within and by your own choice” (2010) and it is a rather eloquent interpretation of happiness that really gets to the heart of the argument.
Absolute happiness is hard to find but in the minds of many Americans, having money is happiness. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but more exclusively money measure the quality of the things with their price. Money cannot create permanent state of happiness but definitely it can create temporary excitement. According to Norman Yeager, “The pursuit of happiness, is one of the unalienable rights given us by our Creator says the Declaration of Independence” (2011).
Social research and surveys have shown results based on an individual’s income, health and the political scenario which is dominant in his or her region. It is quite obvious that the gap between the privileged and the not so privileged is growing into a great divide giving rise to different class and status, thus defining the different level of social circle. It should therefore be understood how an individual’s economic status affects their personal happiness throughout all aspects of life. Many tend to refer to this age-old quote especially when they tend to belong to sector of people who can't afford the modern day luxuries of life.
