William Shakespeare wrote a great number of famous tragedies, one of which is a story of the prince of Denmark, Hamlet. Hamlet loses his father murdered by his uncle Claudius who becomes king afterward and marries his mother Gertrude. He plans to be avenged on his uncle while it is deemed that Hamlet is obsessed with his mother through the play. Comparison between Hamlet’s hatred toward Claudius when his father and his mother is killed reflects Hamlet’s enthusiasm about Gertrude. Hamlet really cares about his mother and his efficiency of revenge embodies his obsession with his mother. Hamlet’s hatred toward the King is more drastic when his mother dies than his father. Hamlet firstly gets to know that his father’s death has something to do with his uncle while he doesn’t like King Claudius from the beginning. However, hearing from his father’s ghost and seeing Claudius’ reaction when he watches the play that reveals his murder makes Hamlet determined to take revenge and let his uncle pay for what he has done. Hamlet hates Claudius very much since he kills his father and “plunders” his mother and the whole kingdom so he never respects the King and even often embarrasses or insults him. For instance, Hamlet insults the king after he kills Polonius. Claudius asks him where the body is but Hamlet doesn’t really answer his question and says, “Nothing but to show you how a king may go a progress through the guts of a beggar." (5.2.) Nevertheless, comparing to this, Hamlet is much more boiling with anger when he sees his mother is poisoned by the cup of wine that the King prepares for Hamlet. The more intensely he acts, the more he hates. He is even out of mind that he doesn’t hesitate for a second to kill Claudius. “Here, thou incestuous, murderous, damned Dane, Drink off this potion.
