Gun control ENG/102 8/11/10 Brian Kevin Gun control 1 Introduction: Gun control advocates have cried foul, because of the Supreme Court 2010 ruling they believe will damage the chances gun control laws to reduce crime. While many people consider gun control to be too restrictive, advocates are of the mind that we should remove all the guns, at all cost. The Supreme Court ruling has mandated that state and city governments have no choice but to respect the Second Amendment of their citizens. The gun doesn’t fire itself. The people are the ones killing people whether it was with evil intent or simply by operator error. Accidental shootings accounted for less than 2% of deaths of adults in 1995 there were fewer fatalities because of firearms than all other causes studied according to statistic studies( Agrest,J. 2008) A study of statistic focusing on children: When the same studies focused on children, the studies showed that fatal accidents involving children and firearms accounted for less than 3% of fatalities in children. Accidental poisonings and children falling were the only categories to score lower in frequencies. Causes of death such as motor vehicle accidents, drowning deaths, fires, and smoking were all found to be the bigger killers of children. The facts tell the whole story, not only did crime not go up when the government allows people to have legally registered guns, but crime was decreased by an average of 37% in Florida. The basic fact is if law abiding citizens are stripped of their guns, then the only people with guns will be the crooks and the cops. Unfortunately the police are outnumbered and can use all the help they can get, with-in reason. Protecting ourselves is our right and our founding fathers understood that and made provision to guarantee that. The new laws have provided an avenue to get back to our roots and protect our rights. Gun laws only limit the good guys and the bad guys don’t get their guns from a store, they come from the street and many people will die in the street if they can’t defend themselves.
