Violent Crime is on the Increase Because of Gun Control Gun Control in England Gun control is an act by the controlling government to limit or eliminate the sale or use of guns. England has taken this idea to the max and now has the strictest laws concerning guns in any free country. England’s politicians have yet to discover that gun control laws do not protect its people. Crime rates have increased in all of England and it now has the most crime compared to any other democratic country in the world (Smith). Gun control does not work for many reasons such as ; it gives criminals more confidence (Smith) , limits the the civilians ability to protect themselves, and in the end is a direct cause of an increase in violent crime. With this being said, gun control is ineffective in England due to a large increase in violent crime since the laws have been implemented. There are many types of guns. They are classified by how they look and operate. There are three main types: handguns, shotguns, and rifles (Agresti). Handguns are meant to be held with one hand, are extremely portable and easy to conceal, while still be deadly in close range. These guns cause the most controversy because these are the main weapon used in crimes that range from armed robbery to homicides. Handguns are illegal to possess and have been banned from the civilians of the U.K. Rifles are a long barrel gun made for long range firing.Their main uses are target shooting and hunting. These guns are the least used in crimes because they usually have a slow fire rate, and are large and cumbersome. Rifles are not banned in the U.K as long as they are not semi-automatic, and the owner has a permit that was issued by the local police station.
