"Case Study 1 Guitar Maker" 1. Which of the Fayol’s 14 universal principles of management in Table 2.1 are evident in the C.F. Martin case? Explain your reasoning for each principle selected. Discipline: After C.F. Martin was taken over by the son, the employees learned to have more respect for the manager and company, because they were included in more than just coming to work and doing their jobs. Unity of command: Before the company was taken over by the son, the employees came, to work, took orders from a superior, and went home when the work was finished. Unity of direction: After the company was taken over by the son, the employees were included in company decisions, and were probably a lot happier. With the employees being happier the direction of the company was probably started in the right direction. Order: The son taking over probably helped to restore order between employees and managers. Equity: After the employees were brought together and retrained, they were probably treated fairly and with kindness and justice and became more loyal to their managers. Stability and tenure of personnel: The son went to get some training on teamwork and taught the employees what he learned bring up sales. Initiative: The son really showed some initiative by receiving training on teamwork because he really cared about the company and carried out a plan on how to bring up sales. Esprit de corps: Effort was put into each side, management and employees, by bringing harmony between the two groups the company was more organized and was able to bring in more revenue. 2.
