The purpose of accounting information is to help organizations make well-informed business decisions. Accounting allows organizations to understand the financial perspective of the organization, the inflow and outflow of organizational resources and their results. An important function of accounting is organized record-keeping which allows the organization to record spending and receiving patterns. This paper focuses on several accounting aspects of Guillermo Furniture Store. The paper focuses on how budgets and performance reports assist the furniture maker in the decision making process, and how ethics might influence his decisions. In addition, the paper focuses on the most relevant accounting information necessary for appropriate business decisions. Budgets and Performance Reports A budget is a quantitative expression of a plan of action (Horngren, C., Sundem, G., Stratton, W., Burgstahler, D, & Schatzberg, J., 2008). Budget reports specify allowable expenditures of each business function, and allow the business to control costs. Performance reports depict the businesses complete budgeting management system. Combined, each report lists specific attributes in relation to various budget modifications as well as other necessary information pertaining to the budgeting situation. Primarily, Guillermo can use a budget as an ongoing reminder of business transactions during the decision-making process and future planning process to effectively attain business objectives and goals. The budget allows Guillermo to allocate resources and prioritize certain activities and make decisions in advance on when, where, what and how he will improve business processes. After implementing the budget report, a performance report shows the results of company activities by “highlighting variances, which are deviations from plans” (Horngren, et. al., 2008, p. 13).
