There is usually bullying in schools, but something that not everyone knows is that there is also racism going on in schools everyday. There are students and teachers that are racist and that should not be acceptable. A very popular racist phrase is “go back where you came from” that phrase is disrespectful in so many ways. America is supposed to be the land of opportunities not the land to be bullied because of your race. Kids go to school to learn and be successful, but how can they achieve anything when they are constantly being bashed on.
Not all students learn the same way, therefore, teachers need to try different ways to to teach the material. Students also must learn to try different rules and strategies because the ones they are using may not be effective in solving their problems. Also, these children may have more problems working through these assignments because of their culture, the familiar cognitive landscapes, as Rose described it, have changed. The strategies and rules these kids have used before, simply won't work when applied to the new assignments that they are given. Could we also say that these new assignments are ineffective
The parents usually do not socialize with other parents because they usually receive negative comments towards their child. Parents who anti-socialize usually channel that aggression to their spouse which results in violent arguments. Schools as well as teachers are also responsible on placing kids with ADHD in an environment where they can perform their best. This is not to segregate the children but to place them in an environment where they can learn their best. Also, if the child does not perform at his/her best, it greatly reduces the self-esteem not only of the child but the parents as well.
Parents are often show frustration at not being there and being able to help their children in addition to not getting to see them as much as the teachers do. Parents may be reluctant to express their concerns because of cultural beliefs related to the authoritative position of the teacher. Parents may also be unsure of how to express their concerns to the teachers. Research shows that parents provide a passionate feeling that is highly personalized and comes with a history and a future. During a power struggle between a parent and a child, you will see emotions seldom seen by two people.
Some parents ignore to teach their children when they were young. It cause many children don’t care their behavior and they will get the wrong worldview. I like this book because that is a good advice for children and parents, it can help parents teach their children keep a good behavior when they were young. How to listening to the other people, that is a serious problem for children, especially for parents. Now, more and more children don’t like to listen to the other people.
She states multiple times that the children within the education system are being cheated every day because they are not being forced to read more difficult books. “Such benefits are denied to the young reader exposed only to books with banal, simple-minded moral equations as well as to the student encouraged to come up with reductive, wrong-headed readings of mulitlayered texts” (Prose 97). The reader can blatantly see that Prose thinks negatively of the high school curriculum that today's students face. It seems clear that Prose does not want to hide her personal view or feelings, so she starts her essay out in a way that we do not have to read between the lines to get a sense of how she feels about what she is writing. She uses more emotional language when she says, "The intense loyalty adults harbor for books first encountered in youth is one probable reason for the otherwise baffling longevity of vintage mediocre novels, books that teachers may themselves have read in adolescence"(Prose
Many teachers do not like “catching plagiarists and bringing them to academic justice.” As she states, it is not hard to just cite the author that originally had the information you are using (Bojar). Plagiarism is becoming a big problem in the school system. Many students do not understand what needs to be cited and what does not. The school system should teach students the proper way to cite, and they should teach them that copy and pasting is not writing a paper. According Bojar to students at the community college have a hard time juggling classes along with his or her family and a job.
When I was reading the book I was so surprised at how much Esme used multiple intelligences and different use of texts, media, visual, and other many good practices. Esme’s classroom was a canvas of stimuli and visuals. When told by a colleague that her room was distracting Esme thought to herself that the teacher in question was jealous. I have to agree with Esme, I believe the teacher was jealous of Esme’s enthusiasm, youth and spirit. The teacher may have genuinely been concerned with presenting too much information to students but through my classes at Sage, excessive stimuli is good of students with ADD because it gives them many things to focus on instead of causing behavioral problems.
The book models curriculum and community aligned oral history and essay writing. Students can apply the insights gained by Red to their ongoing actions as citizens of their community and their study of American history. English teachers can assign community oral history research as modeled in the book by Ms. Miller in which they research the ways their community has reacted to discrimination concerns or the history of a community center/house of worship. This can be in tandem with Social Studies colleagues plus allow the English teacher to include informational literacy integration of knowledge and ideas by having students analyze various accounts of segregation as shared in history texts or documents and as presented in this historical novel. Most importantly this well researched historical fiction work fully addresses the CCSS standard 11 for responding to literature in that in reading it students can analyze the narrative by making connections to other history documents/texts, cultural/race relations perspectives and personal events (death, loss, sibling relationships, boy/girl relationships, friendship, family
Hibler”, the student’s regular teacher who came down with a cold, Miss Ferenczi becomes popular with the students. One student in particular who is the protagonist, “Tommy”, comes to like her while some students just didn’t understand her. Through the story Miss Ferenczi’s unconventional teaching style opens Tommy’s eyes and he begins to like learning and his whole overall state of being is changed. This change that Miss Ferenczi is able to make in students is what makes her a good teacher. When the story starts out, the daily routine of school sounds like a chore for Tommy, like it is for most kids.
