The letters begin inside the east courtyard and in the upper south corner and runs from top to bottom. The limestone and granite along the outside of the ninth floor depicts a carving of the arms of the State of Texas and the University of Texas. There are two gates that guard the north entrance to the main building and they display the seal of the university in a beautiful wrought iron design. The seal of the university consists of a star and wreath of the live oak and olive branches from the arms of the Republic and State of Texas. In the upper section of the seal is an open book, which symbolizes an institution of learning.
