When I went to the Great Salt Lake Shore Lands Preserve, It wasn’t like the first time when I went there. First of all, there was pretty much snow everywhere I looked. Whereas the last time we went to the Great Salt Lake Shore lands wasn’t full of snow, it was just a bit chilly outside and it was very wet. And there was a lot of grass everywhere I looked. And the first time we went there, I saw a lot more birds. This wasn’t the case however for our second time returning there. We walked down the pathway with snow at every step. It was very cold and there and the snow was pretty deep, for me at least. However I did get some awesome facts about the birds at the Great Salt Lake shore lands! The implementation of creative strategies has enabled the Conservancy to promote balanced growth while preserving open space and wildlife habitat. Large acquisitions have been made to secure sections of the area for wetland restoration and wildlife protection. In order to preserve the long-term health of this ecosystem, they are also trying to create numeric water quality standards for the Lake. The National Audubon Society is also contributing to the effort by establishing a 2,000 acre preserve on the south shore as well as acquiring additional lands for future preservation. So when we were going through the snow, I saw a white building in the far distance. The same one I saw the last time I came. Only this time it was covered with snow like everything else out there. The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is beautiful. If you're lucky you will see blue cranes and pelicans, white-faced ibis and Arctic terns, Wilson's phalaropes and American avocets, snowy plovers and bald eagles, rufous, calliope and broad-tailed hummingbirds. If you're especially lucky, you may see Pink Floyd fly overhead to his new home Antelope Island, ( he's the renegade pink flamingo that escaped from SLC's Liberty Park aviary).Because the preserve is located on swampland, the usually dry Utah climate is a little on the humid side. Both the Visitor Center and Observation Tower provide educational exhibits, a spectacular view of the preserve, The Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island. Unless there's a tour, it's very likely you will be the only human at the site, But there were a couple people there. And though very cold, I saw a lot of great things. I learned a lot of things and got a lot of facts to write down into this essay. And I have one last thing to say, THERE ARE A TON OF SPECIES OF BIRDS IN THIS
