Dear Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa , My name is bobby and I am currently a senior attending crenshaw high school. The purpose of my letter is to address an issue that in my opinion needs to be resolved. The issue I am talking about is the graffiti that we all see on the daily basis throughout our city of Los Angeles. I personally have nothing against graffiti because I see some types of graffiti as an art form when done respectfully on a wall with permission, however I understand why some people have acknowledged graffiti as a negative form of vandalism. I too think that tagging on buildings, houses, poles, street signs, etc. makes our city look bad and can portray a negative assumption of the residents within the community. This is why I feel that graffiti should be moved away from public areas and be put into graffiti parks where walls can be put up for graffiti artists to use. Now yes building such areas for graffiti will cost some money, but the city of Los Angeles already spends thousands of dollars a year to paint over and get rid of graffiti throughout the city. I can use Venice beach as an example because they have an area on the beach where people are permitted to paint on designated walls that were placed specifically for graffiti artists. I think that we can create something similar to that so that graffiti on unwanted areas can be reduced. Vandalism to the city of Los Angeles not only costs a lot of money, it also makes the city look bad. That is why I think designated areas for graffiti should be created. Some might argue that this will not put an end to all graffiti problems, but it might resolve the issue with time. I think that artists should be able to express themselves through their art, but are sometimes restricted due to the laws. They can gain permission from building owners to paint on their walls, but it is sometimes difficult for them to
