Factors that Influenced my decision to Pursue a Graduate Degree Why I am Pursing a Graduate Degree? I come from a family who thinks highly of continuing education. I have always been pushed to better myself through education. I graduated from high school May 2003 and from College in December 2008. I decided to take a break from school and received much grief from my family. I was content with obtaining my bachelor’s degree and had no desire to further my education. My family patronized me for not immediately attending Graduate School following my first degree. I did not realize where they were coming from until being defeated in my job search for a career related to my field of study. I applied to many jobs, even jobs not related to my Finance Degree. No doors were opening and after eight months I became very discouraged. At this point, I began to look at the big picture and came to the realization that Graduate School was a good option to maintain a better life. I am the first in my immediate family to receive a college degree and continuing my education has become a way of life. This is why I was not surprised on the outcome of my What’s My Jungian 16- Type Personality Assessment. My score was ENJT, which conveys I am outgoing, visionary, argumentative, have a low tolerance for incompetence, and often seen as a natural leader. All those characteristics allowed me to be where I am, a college graduate pursing the MBA. The decision to attend Graduate School was a very difficult choice in the beginning, but I was unhappy in my current position at my job, I deeply desired to make my family proud, and I wanted to work toward my own personal goals. I am 15 hours away from completing an Accounting Bachelors degree. It is a major goal of mine to return and to complete this degree, but while attending University of Phoenix I
