Antigone and Ismene Although Antigone and Ismene are sisters, they do not share similar personalities. Antigone is more headstrong and bold, while Ismene is soft and dependent. Ismene is protective of Antigone, because she cares about her. Antigone has a firm belief in what she thinks is right, and she is clear about it. Ismene however, follows the rules, and goes by the law of Creon.
Her assertion is noted when she says “I want them to see me as a tough customer”. In addition her strong will is evidenced as she proclaims her refusal to pretend “the only differences between you and me are the various and ordinary ones that distinguish any one person from another”. According to Mairs, “Cripple seems to me a clean word, straightforward and precise,”. Mairs believes that the word “crippled” most accurately describes her condition, and is content to refer to herself as one. While Mairs says that “Society is no readier to accept crippledness than to accept death, war, sex, sweat, or wrinkles” personally she acknowledges and accepts it wholeheartedly.
This could be an extremely useful exercise for Koren. A lot of her anxiety and stress comes from her own person thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs. Rarely is she affected solely by something that another individual says or does. She is very hard on herself and it may provide her a great deal of relief if she could imagine others saying these things. Taking away the self-condemning nature of her thoughts could really change her perspective and feelings.

This was one of the aspects of her personality that made her successful. I agree with Jane’s argument because she fought for their rights and have equal rights. I think it’s the right thing hat she fought because it shows what kind of person she is but most important she won the argument that women were struggling at the certain time. She believed in herself that she can improve the social conditions and the good life time of the

Ignoring that, Nancy Lee still raises her head up and smiles, “This won’t keep me down. But when I’m a woman, I’ll fight to see that these things don’t happen to other girls as this happened to me” (Hughes). Even though Nancy Lee is disqualified to receive the scholarship, she still accepts it and lets it pass. Nancy chooses to face her own struggle by using it as her own advances instead of letting it paralyze her. Moreover, because of her decision, Nancy Lee becomes more mature and responsible.
I thought this to mean that Gilman was feminizing them while the women held the power to release them. Also when they were in confinement how they were allowed to exercise and Gilman says the older women would match or beat them at the exercises. Gilman gets this point across pretty clear that she thinks women are equal, if not better than males. In this utopian place, Gilman lays out a place and society that she believes is an ideal place to live. She creates a social structure that because it is all women believes that there is never any trouble and everyone gets along with one another.
Aunt Lydia's use of glittering generalities and convincing tone of voice makes these women accept whatever she defines them as, giving no reason to think otherwise. Offred describes Aunt Lydia's voice as "pious, condescending, the voice of those whose duty is to tell us unpleasant things for our own good" (Atwood 113). During her lesson she states, “We want you to be valued,
Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.” (Lopez A5) It is evident that over the course of history, the plight of women has caused women of different circumstances and problems to be empowered and exert their full efforts to bring about necessary reforms and many times have they succeeded. With that said, women empowerment should be about more than just breaking the bounds of repression, but more than that, being truly free to be women who remain true to the authentic set of morals and standards they have set for themselves. It is important that women develop a sense of purpose within them and make use of their personal potential, not only for the benefit of themselves, but more importantly, for the betterment of society. That spark of purpose has to emerge and start with the self until it burns brighter to enlighten those around them; the potential of a woman has the power to be truly
