Gracie Gamble Mr. Jones Computer Applications 14 April 2015 Audrey Hepburn Audrey Hepburn, a name that remains to be familiar to many. One of Hollywood’s greatest style icons and one of the world’s greatest actresses will forever be known for her essence of pure class and beauty. She has dazzled millions and continues to do so through her films even today. Born Audrey Kathleen Rutson on May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium; Audrey Hepburn was special from the start. Her mother, Ella van Heemstra, was a Dutch Baroness, and her father, Joseph Victor Anthony Ruston, was born all the way in Uzice, Bohemia. Audrey’s parents definitely didn’t have what you could call an average background. Her father’s work often caused him to travel abroad and so that left her family at home with two older step-brothers from Ella's previous marriage - Alexander and Ian, who were eight and four years older than Audrey. At the age of five her parents divorced Audrey related her father's disappearance as "the most traumatic event in my life.” Her father was granted visitation rights buy didn’t ever use them, after the abandonment of his family. Audrey went to London and was sent to a private girl’s school. After this when her mother moved back to the Netherlands, she always attended private schooling. When Audrey and her mother had went on a vacation to Arnhem, Netherlands Audrey’s life changed drastically. Hitler’s army took over this town and Audrey suffered from depression and malnutrition during the Nazi occupation. Dutch resources were fully exploited by Germany and, in time, virtually all of the van Heemstra family's property became confiscated: property, homes, bank accounts, securities, jewelry. Due to Audrey’s British citizenship, and fear of internment, Ella warned Audrey not to speak English in public: "My mother was worried about [my] speaking English in the streets
