In the year 2005, Google had developed a Chinese language interface for its website and had launched google.cn with results in the year 2006 with the consent of the Chinese government. Google’s operation in China started only in September 2007 due to a lengthy approval process by the Chinese government. It took almost more than 18 months for the site to start after it was setup. In the year 2009, Google had faced criticism among the existing players like Baidu and Sohu by Chinese regulators. This was mainly because Google had showed less shame when pornographic content was made available through their search engine whereas players like Baidu and Sohu had apologized to the public formally. Chinese regulators had announced suspension on Google’s ability to search through foreign sites due to not responding to the removal of pornographic content by the Chinese government. Hereafter, Google started experiencing cyber attacks with Gmail accounts of several Chinese activists and thus in January 2010, had to reconsider its approach in China.
