Case analysis of Google China Background 13 years ago, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two brilliant graduate students from Stanford University, founded a search engine, aiming at creating an online searching system to public. This system is called Google. During the 13 years, Google progressed step by step. It has already developed into the biggest as well as the most advanced search engine all over the world and basically achieved its original goal: to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. To broaden its overseas market, Google completely got into Chinese market in 2006 by launching “Google.cn”. At the first three years, Google developed many business and services. However, the increasing conflicts between Google and the related local governmental departments, as well as the increasing pressure from out of China, made Google quit Chinese market in 2010. The reasons of quitting Chinese market are very complex. Facing Chinese policy, legal barriers, competition from Baidu, pressure from international organizations, Google was in dilemma and finally chose to quit. Google’s quitting made people feel sad. Problems that Google experienced are warnings to international enterprises. Problems and diagnosis 1. Politics blend into business Google is business but beyond business, at least in China. This issue is very complicated. It is related to Chinese history, politics, policy and the conflict between China and western countries. The origin of these issues is date back to the foundation of People’s Republic of China. The first aspect is Chinese socialism system. The People’s Republic of China was founded by Mao Zedong in 1949. From the beginning, China has been pursuing socialist system all the time.
