Good instructors&bad instructors Good instructor has a competitive edge over bad instructor in personality, attitude and teaching methodology. Personality is the most obvious difference. Persistent, optimistic and hardworking, good instructor sets an example in all possible ways. In fact, students are very likely to emulate his behavior in their own studies. Obviously, instructors without these valuable qualities will never be admired by students. Instructor’s attitude towards his students also set them apart. Good instructor has equal expectations of success from each of his students while bad instructors continually ignore those less talented in academic studies. A friend of mine tells me how her math teacher has preference to students who are good at mathematics. Towards the rest of the class she`s very exacting, giving homework and tests without bothering to ask about difficulties. Perhaps the most contributing difference is the way they teach. One of the indicators of a good instructor is his desire to teach in a new, original form, adding something new and personal to make the learning process as exciting as it can possibly be. Once my instructor said that” The specific subject matter I teach is less important than what students learn by learning it.”A bad teacher is a person that focuses only on the information he provides. Such a person can be very good in the theoretical part but he will never have students being emotionally attached to him.
