NAME: K. Mudeliar ___________________________________________________________________________ We all depend on the environment, and without it, the Earth cannot sustain any form of life. With all the benefits which we receive from our living, working and precious environment, why would we want to harm and destroy it, and not want to save it instead? We can be extremely wasteful with our resources because we are either unaware or simply just do not care. However, these resources are not unlimited and thus, we can no longer afford to be wasteful with our resources. The previous generations have moulded our society into the situation in which we are now in. The current generation cannot be blamed nor does this mean that the fault lies with the previous ones. In the article, the author says “we didn’t have the green thing back in my day”. However, she mentions a few practices from her past which are true, but more importantly, these practices are actually much greener than those that we practice today. In her past, things were done that way because of a strong need for greater thrift and due to lower economic wealth. With more prosperity came along new technologies, which have led to the creation of more convenient and time-saving methods and devices. Our focus should now shift from an economical and materialistic view, towards one of a sustainable way of life for all of our people. Previously, people made their choices and based their decisions on convenience, ease, quality and price. Today, those decisions need to include the impact that such decisions have on the environment. I believe that going green is just a matter of replacing our old, bad habits with new and greener ones.
