GOING FREELANCE A freelancer is a person who is self-employed and is not committed to a particular employer for long term. Examples of areas where freelancing is common includes: music , journalism, event management, computer programming, web design, consulting, tour guiding, Videography and photography among others . Going freelancer is not an easy decision to make. There are many challenges that come with it. For instant, it requires a lot of discipline for you to realize your target and even earn a living. Patience is also the key area to work on since at the beginning the returns might be so minimal and it will take time to pick and satisfy and surpass your need. Freelancing is a challenge by itself. There is no one to stand in for your especially when you have other issues for example sickness or emergency. The client will be on your neck if you are not able to deliver on time. This might therefore demand that if you are in this field you should have a social network of people who do similar work so that in case you are tied up you can forward them the work and if necessary pay them so that the work is completed on time. Lack of experience come in handy as a challenge. The client might give you jobs you have never done before and ‘no’ is not an answer. This means that one will keep learning new things and implementing them to the client’s satisfaction. It is therefore good to have the ‘I can do it!’ attitude and also be open minded and a quick learner. A new freelancer will face shortage of resources to start and keep up with competitors. Last but not least there is no holiday in freelancing. This means that a holiday in freelancing means no earning for that period of time.
