Why Students Should Wear Uniforms in Public Schools Many students believe that school uniforms should not be introduced, because of the limitation of their freedom. I believe that introducing a uniform to the school would decrease the diversity between each student, and it will be the solution for many problems. Taking this issue in to consideration, I wish to explain the benefits/ advantages of wearing a uniform to school. I personally think that a dress code enforces discipline in learning by changing a person’s attitude toward success. Students generally act the way they are dressed.
Middle school was the worst years of my school career. It is a place where one cannot be true to who they are. Whether it be because they haven’t established their own style or they are scared of other students thoughts. In addition it is the transition from elementary to a school with the whole town, not just the kids who lived in your area. A lot more responsibilities are expected from us at such a young age, yet we are still very immature.
1 Should cell phones be allowed in school? Cell phones have been argued to improve academics and education, but they introduce and create more problems as well. Students can abuse the allowance of cell phones, as they have done before, such instances in bullying, bomb threats, and use of features distracting to learning. They may also even utilize cell phones for cheating, an already large problem in academics. Cellphones have many capabilities which cannot be controlled, and not all students may be able to afford a cell phone.
Within this particular classroom, in the beginning, they were all pushed apart by their color and race.. Majority of them really wanted nothing to do with each other and by the end of the movie they all became a family. During this time period, teenage gang members felt that high school was forced education and that they were only in there because the government forced them in there. The student’s teacher, Erin Gruwell has higher expectations for them. She uses intrinsic motivation, which means doing what she loves to do without a reward to push her students into a class that not only teaches them English but about themselves as well.
Generally, cell phones are frowned upon in school settings and for some good reasons too. Yes, they can cause distractions- which can lead to lowering of grades, impulsive behaviors, and even attitude problems. Cell phones seem to be at the beginning of a long list of grievances, but what some people don’t realize is that having cell phones in school can be a matter of life or death. Not only are cell phones an important tool in keeping students safe, they are also being implemented in education in helpful, interactive ways. Besides that, by allowing cell phones in school, it will also save the school’s money.
Bullying Bullying is a way to intimidate someone or a way to make someone do what they want a person to do. Bullying is a form of abuse that can be emotional or physical. Victims of bullying usually lose interest in their school work and become depressed and eventually either drop out or commit suicide. People are bullied because of their race, ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. According to statistics about one fourth of all students from elementary through high school are victims of bullying.
However, by the time she reaches her neighborhood’s failing high school, she will already be too far behind and may not even graduate, or even have a chance of getting a higher education. The movie also shows a boy from Washington, D.C. also stuck in a poor educational system in his neighborhood. A mother from the Bronx also has a difficult time when she is told that her son may need to be held back a year because of his weak reading skills. A middle school girl in California thinks that her public high school may not allow her from making it to her goals. All of these families want more for their children but can only hope they can transfer their kids into a better school.
Their feelings being hurt by fellow students, also know as bullies. Being bullied can lower ones self esteem to a point of destruction one of the main reasons children are bullied at school is because of the types of clothes they are wearing or not wearing. Some families are not as fortunate as others and therefore can not afford to spend money on expensive name brand clothing. It is noted that some believe school uniforms remove the issue of competitive dressing and help children from poorer backgrounds who would otherwise find it difficult to keep up with the latest fashion trends(McDermott, Patrick). In addition, some school heads believe that school uniforms vanishes social, economic and class divisions and inculcate a sense of pride in students(McCarthy, Lisa).
There was the negative groups of people who associated with each other of course these was the students who were performing poorly in their academics, stayed in trouble at school, skipped classes, came to class late or hardly ever was present at school. Majority of these students were more than likely affiliated with gang members or drug dealers. This type of behavior which were being shown by the negative people were started from home, such as their parents maybe were showing or doing negative activities around these kids when they were growing up and since the child seen their parents or family member doing these type of negative activities they decided they would try it because in their mind they thought that
Even though they all came from different backgrounds they all had the common factor of growing up in tough neighborhoods. Each student had their own individual story which caused them to behave in the manner that they did; because of this the students were stereotyped by their teachers throughout the movie. The teachers labeled them as gang members because they wore baggy clothes, categorized them as remedial because they didn’t have an extensive educational background, and because they had no desire to understand these kids’ story they isolated them from the other students in fear that they would be a hindrance to their education. As a result, the students lashed out even more because they knew they were being judged and
