God wants the leader to be obedient because he knows what is best for him. He also wants the leader to live a good life of obedience, holiness and purity. Obeying God’s commands points to the shape of a leader’s life as a whole, to the consistency of that leaders. He must strive to personify God’s love and character. From there, true happiness will emerge. The goal of Christian Counseling is to, “free better people to worship and serve God” (Crabb, 1977, p. 22). When people worship God, happiness will most likely come. Similarly, the American Association of Christian Counselors states that our goal as Christian Counselors is to, “help others move to personal wholeness, interpersonal competence, mental stability, and spiritual maturity” (“About Us”, n.d.). Now, looking at the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics, we find a counselor’s main responsibility “is to respect the dignity and to promote the welfare of clients.” According to
Counselors advocate change at all levels to improve the quality of life for individuals or groups, while eliminating obstacles that make it difficult to receive proper services. Christian counselors promote the same quality as secular counselors but incorporate the messages of Jesus Christ. Three specific areas competence, conflict of Interest and termination are valuable in the counseling profession. My personal ethics code is to be a good man and stand for something that will make my family’s life better. You have to stand for something in life so I choose to stand for honor and integrity. I want to be a man that my sons will have respected for. I was taught by my grandfather to be honest God fearing man. I was raised to do what is right all the time.
Stewardship is the product of one’s new worldview that is brought about by one’s conversion. For example, how to most effectively use one’s opportunities, how one works and why, what one think and does, promoting the Gospel, living as a slave to righteous, and being a living sacrifice (Miller, n.d). Everything one has, including time, assets, effort, works, mental and physical abilities, etc. belongs to God and one is to skillfully manage it; for God’s glory and not for one’s lustful cravings. Stewards are to be trustworthy (Holy Bible, NIV, l Cor 10:26).
