Some people may choose to write about their wild children, supportive father, or loving mother. Others may choose to write about their sparkling wedding ring or cherry red BMW. Some may even write about their favorite trip to the Bahamas or how much they love being at home! It only took me a split second to come up with a response to this question. The football field is where my heart is and has had a great impact on my teenage years. Football helped shape me into the man I am today. I look back at my years of playing football and I realize that it has taught me many things that I use in my life today. One thing it taught me was leadership. In Junior High school I was named captain of our football team. Being the second youngest child in my house, I believe that was the first time I had ever been given a leadership role in my life. I learned that as a leader you have to make smart decisions and do your best every day because people look up to you. The last thing I wanted to do was let my teammates down. Football also taught me the importance of teamwork and communication. Football is the epitome of a team sport because if one person fails his assignment it could ruin the whole play for your team or be a big gain for the other team. That’s why good communication between your coaches and players on and off the field is vital to having an excellent team. I remember my coach always said, “Your team is only a strong as your weakest link.” This saying can be applied from a team of pee wee football players, to a hardcore team of Navy Seals.
