The Globalization of Starbucks Name Global Business Management School Teacher Date Background: The Globalization of Starbucks Starbucks is currently a global business. It was founded in 1971 with it’s headquarters in Seattle Washington. Starbucks became incorporated on November fourth nine-teen eighty five. Starbucks currently employs more than 149,000 individuals. They are operating in sixty countries with almost 18,000 retail stores. Starbucks was named after a character in Melville’s classic Moby Dick, and their logo was inspired by Greek mythology. They have a net worth of over 35.8 billion dollars. In the early1980’s Starbucks director of marketing, Howard Schultz, went to Italy on a business trip. When he returned he was filled with excitement as to the direction the company could go. While in Italy Mr. Schultz was enchanted with the experience he had at the Italian coffeehouses. Mr. Schultz tried to encourage the owner of Starbucks to try the same type of coffeehouse experience here in the United States (Statics Brain, 2012). Starbucks mission is: “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time”(Starbucks Company Profile). Starbucks is committed to offering the best coffee possible, and they are meeting that goal by being sure their coffee is grown using ethical sourcing practices. Their coffee buyers travel to several countries where the beans are sold to ensure the highest quality bean is selected. They call their employees a partner, which instills an atmosphere of integrity and respect. Starbucks also offers health care for all of its partners, whether full or part time, and offers ‘Bean’ Stock to all of its partners.
