Global Warming What is Global Warming? Global Warming is when the earth heats up and the temperature rises. It happens when greenhouse gases trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. These gases include carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane. Carbon Dioxide, in the atmosphere helps keep the Earth warm. It prevents infrared wavelengths of energy, which warm the planet from escaping back out to space. The current cycle of global warming is changing the rhythms of climate that all living things have come to rely upon. Effects of Global Warming There are several effects that global warming can lead to. The planet is warming, from North Pole to South Pole, and everywhere in between. Ice is melting worldwide, especially at the Earth’s poles. This includes mountain glaciers, ice sheets covering West Antarctica and Greenland, and Arctic sea ice. Also, extreme weather doesn't just mean high temperatures. Global warming is causing more intense rainfall and droughts at the same time across the world. Global Warming is really a big problem we have to deal with nowadays, because it has the potential to change forever our lives and our planet's environment as we know them, and this would affect the whole mankind. Another effect of global warming is species that depend on one another may become out of sync. For example, plants could bloom earlier than their pollinating insects become active. The effects of global warming are strongest at the poles. Ice all over the world is melting. This includes the ice on mountain glaciers, Arctic sea ice and ice sheets covering West
