Waterways were also a way for transportation, to cut out a lot of land, and cut out time. Waterways are a faster way for trade and barter. Steam boats were what pioneers used to travel down the waterways to trade and sell goods. Railroads were still used for closer travel, with items that did not need to get there as fast as possible, because railroad cars do not move very fast, although the steam engine improved the speed of transportation also. The United States did make rather large changes over 100 years, from 1776 to 1870.
Industrialization greatly affected the balance of power in the world. Those nations that did industrialize became significantly more powerful. The first nation to industrialize was Great Britain. One of the major effects of industrialization was the need for raw materials, so it encouraged colonialism. The European powers attempted to dominate in far-flung places in order to make sure that they had the resources needed to drive their
Technology is the building block of any society: it allows for new advancements to be made that improve daily life. Two such societies that made advancements in technology included the Han Dynasty and the Roman Empire. As the expansion of the empire increased, the Romans built roads that linked these regions together. These roads were built in such a way that allowed for easier travel: roads were paved and allowed for water to run off. In addition, the empire also developed the transportation of water throughout the city through the construction of aqueducts, which were canals.
There were a lot of new technologies popping up in all fields. You have ones that increase the speed of weaving and make it easier. Then there are ones that give you easier transportation like the train and roads. Then there are the ones that helped with communication and made it easier. A big help was all of England’s natural resources.
Irrigation was also used as transportation (Doc.6). Transportation was necessary for trade and easy and fast access to outside places. Perhaps having a document including instructions how theses machines worked would have mad it easier to explain why they were useful and how they operate. Also, an extra document going further into transportation by irrigation systems and its uses would have helped greatly. Politically, irrigation was a problem.
It also had a stable government, which allowed for the people to begin industrializing in the first place, harbors for trade, a very large population resulting in a very large workforce, and many water ways throughout the country to transport materials and products as well as to use for water power at mills. There are several reasons why the Industrial revolution started in the first place. One reason being that there was widespread resistance to disease in Europe as well as a reliable food supply, allowing for steady population growth, which in return created more demand for products, which in turn resulted in new ways of producing products more efficiently in response to demand. As a result of Industrialization, a new economic philosophy arose. Capitalism called for the lack of government intervention in the economy.
This meant that the fact railways were built news and especially political news got around to people faster which meant people were up to date on the news of politics. Also the other Social factor includes education therefore they are more politically aware and also more people could read and write. These played an important part in the growth of democracy in Britain by 1900. A final Social factor that increased the growth of democracy in Britain by 1900 was the Trade Unions who tried to and get better working conditions by claiming the vote and trying to get freedom of speech to make everyone equal. This then meant better employment and better work.
It made it more apparent that heavy industries, factories and coal mining were becoming more and more important. As stated above the railroads made the trade of goods, coal and steel easier which lead to the growth of steel production as well as the growth of large corporations in the oil, sugar and meat industries. With the arrival of new machine driven factories, the need for skilled workers was dramatically reduce, creating more opportunities for unskilled workers. These laborors were hired to clear lands, build and repair tracks and build the trains needed to supply the new demands. With the promise of learning a trade and becoming more wealthy a new class of people was appearing in the cities, the middle class.
New technologies allowed business owners to reduce labor and the hours in the movement of materials from one point to the other. This occurred by using the new technology of railroads and machinery. Business owners used the railroads to transport their finished product and to ship the raw materials around the country more efficiently. The businesses are now able to use machines for lifting materials from one floor to another by the means
This newly connected railroad would now allow a person to journey between San Francisco and New York in just days, before this similar journey could take up to six months. The completion on the transcontinental railroad not only gave people a faster way of travelling, it also gave them a more comfortable, pleasant experience. The railroad also allowed for the faster transportation of heavy or specialized equipment, these things could be received in weeks rather than months. Although the railroad was meant to bring the country together by uniting the railroads from coast to coast, the country faced other challenges that were not
