Global crimes include drugs trafficking, arms trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, bank fraud, terrorism, various white-collar crimes, and cybercrimes. Currently the major global crimes and criminal issues involve human trafficking, cybercrimes, and terrorism. Human trafficking has been going on since the colonial days with the transporting of slaves to America and Europe. Human trafficking affects over 161 countries worldwide. Over 20 million men, women and children are trafficked for sex or labor around the world. Traffickers move their victims within their own countries and across international borders if it represents a profitable gain. Victims of sexual trafficking are usually people found in extreme circumstances such as homelessness, runaways, refugees, tourists, kidnap victims and drug addicts. Traffickers also referred to as pimps, exploit the most vulnerable while promising lucrative gain for the victims such as marriage, education, work, money or an overall better quality of life.
They continue to be sent to the back burner, while political agendas brew. A massive number of victims are produced yet the lone, visible perpetrators are essentially overlooked. In support of this argument three state policies or ‘crimes’ will be analysed, namely, (1) Australia’s mandatory detention of refugees, (2) The United States’ torture practices against suspected terrorists and (3) Sudan’s sponsored genocide of Darfuris. The first two will focus on the ‘criminals’ sovereignty. While for the third, the ‘watchdogs’’ or the supposed intervening states’ sovereignty will be thrown into the mix.
By examining human trafficking through a distinctive context, it will explain a deeper understanding of human trafficking and offer a prescription for reducing the adverse effects and the efforts to combat human trafficking and the individuals that now suffer such abuses. Human trafficking is an illegal form of modern day slavery. Human beings are not property and they are unfortunately being used for forced labor and prostitution. According to the article, Sex Trafficking of Women and Children in the United States, there is a large amount of victims taken into this life of crime. An estimated 12 million people worldwide are in forced labor, debt bondage, forced child labor, or sexual servitude.
This sort of sexual exploitation in the form of human trading, is bring notoriety to its name and a lot of countries consider Pakistan as one of the major trafficker and blame it as a reason for this ghastly crime accompanying other countries and even United States Department of state recently raised a finger at Pakistan for being a base area of this deplorable business. Poverty is the leading cause of this slavery, and it’s evident that poverty leads to uneducation resulting in increased unemployment giving rise to such trafficking cases in society. Besides human trafficking is one of those serious crimes which is globally considered as the major cause of a fact that majority of the people carrying HIV/AIDS virus are women. Many women and children are unaware of risks associated when they intentionally opt for selling their bodies. So it is our government’s duty to establish public awareness campaigns on this issue because no nation is unaffected to this crime.
The daily news escalates the problem by showing terrorist attacks and car bombings. The government needs to impose stronger regulations on violent medias. The violence from the media influences children’s actions and behavior. Violence originates from the feeling of aggression. Mass media influences people to take their aggression out with physical violence.
