When it comes to the gender gap in applying to post-secondary institutions; Katha Pollitt, a feminist poet in America and John Tierney, a journalist for the New York Times since 1990. Pollitt, in her article called “Girls against Boys?” along with Tierney, in his article “Male Pride and Female Prejudice”. They both agree that women make up 57 percent of undergraduates in college and universities, and the gender gap is steady increasing to project a 60 to 40 ratio, within the next insufficient years. As Pollitt agree with Tierney at a certain point, the author Christina Hoff Sommers, Formerly professor who has a Ph.D. from Brandies University in philosophy. Rich agree there is a gender gap when it comes to females applying to colleges and universities. Saying Kenyon until 1969 was a man college. That year more than 55 percent of her applicants are female. Today, two-thirds of post-secondary institutions report they get more female applicants than males. Nationwide 56 percent of women are undergraduates. Two years ago demographics predict that 42 percent of men in the Unites States will receive baccalaureate degrees. Rich also says colleges has reached what is called a “tipping point”. This is where 60 percent or more females are enrolled, and steadily increasing. Rich is disagreeing , that females are getting better grades in school. Giving an example of a young female that was from Kentucky, she was the president or leader of every activity in her school. During her free time, she did more than 300 hours of community service, for four different organizations. Her grades point average and test scores placed her to be out in the middle of the pile of applications. The 10 officers that sat around the table had to have debate before admitting her. Rich gives a point, that if she had been a male applicant it would have been no hesitation to admit
