People probably won’t see women taking over the world anytime soon, but they will see a dramatic increase of women in college. Currently, the ratio of women to men in American colleges is 57:43, according to USA Today. These numbers are a reversal from the late 1960s to the mid 1970s, when men had vastly outnumbered women. National statistics forecast a continued decline of men in college. Many are not sure as to whether this should be a cause for celebration – or for concern.
In his last refutation, he give a statistic of more than 1000 Michigan elementary school students; if they were born a member o the opposite sex, more than 40 percent of the girls are happy to being a boy, and ninety five percent of the boy feel uncomfortable to being a female. Finally, he includes his article with hoping the public and congress will not be taken in by the book’s misrepresentations. David is successful to convince me that male has more advantages than female does. At school, the boys’ score on the test are higher than girls’. The good behaviors of girl, such as paying attention, doing homework, being nice with teacher and classmate … just help girls get the high grade in record card.
Researchers, supported by Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Pfizer and Time Warner, conducted 2,952 surveys of working-aged men and women and gathered qualitative and quantitative data to conclude that many Asian-Americans, whether immigrant or native born, find it hard to "fit in" the upper management ranks. The projected percentage increase between 2008 and 2050 in the population of people who identify themselves as Asian in the United States will increase by one hundred and sixty-one percent, which compares with a forty-four percent increase in the population as a whole over the same period of time. There will be approximately forty million United States residents by the year 2050 that identify themselves as Asians and hold about nine percent of the population in the United
Nearly half of America’s 5.4 million full-time college students abuse narcotics or undergo alcohol binges at least once a month. This is according to a new study that portrays substance and alcohol abuse as an increasingly urgent problem on campuses across the nation. ALCOHOL REMAINS BY FAR THE FAVORED SUBSTANCE TO CONSUME ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES HOWEVER, THE ABUSE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AND MARIJUANA HAS INCREASED DRAMATICALLY SINCE THE MID-1990s. This is according to the study released by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, which called on educators to move more aggressively to counter intensifying drug and alcohol use among students. Today’s report, the centers second on the subject, involved a survey of 2,000 students and 400 administrators as well as 6 national studies.
Though the most monumental part of 1990 was when the first woman was allowed to participate in combat with the military for the first time during the Gulf War (Teacher, 2009). Though there have been leaps and bounds made in the civil rights and moral rights for woman there are still some head way to be done. The U.S. Census in 2005 reported that while women over the age of sixteen made up more than fifty-nine percent of the work force, they typically only earned approximately seventy-seven cents to a male counter parts dollar (Morse, 2007). Another more difficult time that woman seems to face over men in the ability to have “it all” so to speak. It has been found that forty-two percent of corporate women are still childless by age forty, while only fourteen percent of them planned it that way (Morse, 2007).
Many women in the United States are viewed as strong and independent people. However, women are also shown to be not as powerful and equal to men, women’s voices are still not heard equally today. The blunt truth is that men still run the world. Thirty years after women became 50 percent of the college graduated in the United States; men still hold more leadership positions in the industry and the government. It is a proven fact that “A man is selected for hire over a woman” (Yurkiewicz) while women should automatically be the ones to sit at home and be less help then a man.
The legal system, societal norms and Professional practice of Math, Science & Engineering for Women. Do you know that women owned more than fifty two percent of the bachelors’ degree earn in America throughout the years? According to the research provided by DEP (Department of Professional Employment), only 7.1% of all civil engineers, 9.4% of electrical and electronics engineers and 10% of all aerospace engineers were female even though there is a rapid increase of women working professionally ranging from 5.1 million(1900) to 66.9 million(2009). Women are being under represented in the fields of STEM/MSE (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics/Mathematics, Science and Engineering) due to a lot of factors but in this paper, we are only exploring into 3 common factors which are the legal system, social norms and professional practice. There is still a lot of bias and doubt around the public that woman are not suitable for MSE majors.
Today’s College Students Lack Empathy Jeanna Bryner, editor, LiveScience.com May 28, 2010 College students today are less likely to “get” the emotions of others than their counterparts 20 and 30 years ago, a new study suggests. Specifically, today’s students scored 40 points lower on a measure of empathy than their elders did. The findings are based on a review of 72 studies of 14,000 American college students conducted between 1979 and 2009. “We found the biggest drop in empathy after the year 2000,” said Sara Konrath, a researcher at the University of Michigan’s Institute of Social Research. The study was presented this week at the annual meeting of the Association for Psychological Science in Boston.

With the rising tuition education is going to be very hard to acquire. So it is time for America to change and find a way to lower these ridiculous prices. A College Board report found that about 66% of students who earned a bachelor's degree in 2008 graduated with a substantial amount of debt. This proves that the cost of tuition is rising and in another report, it determined that the average debt of the class of 2008 owed $23,200. This was determined by the Project on student debt, a non profit organization.
