Delanie Brown Period 6 October 18, 2011 GHB – Drug Report GHB is a rapid-acting central nervous system depressant. It is a white powder that can be used in powder or capsule form but it is usually mixed in a liquid such as water. In liquid form, GHB is clear, colorless, odorless and nearly tasteless. It was usually used by bodybuilders but now it’s used by young people in a variety of settings such as clubs, parties, raves and other group gatherings. People typically use GHB to get intoxicated, decrease inhibitions, increase sociability, relieve anxiety and produce euphoria. Some athletes still believe it will build muscle. GHB is most frequently consumed as a liquid. It’s stored in plastic water, sports drink or soda bottles, eyedropper bottles, or glass or plastic vials. GHB lasts from 3 to 6 hours, depending on the amount ingested. At low levels, GHB causes decreased inhibitions, drowsiness, nausea or vomiting, euphoria, and/or dizziness. Higher levels may result in loss of reflexes (including gag reflex), severe respiratory depression, confusion, loss of coordination, seizures, delusions, violent behavior, amnesia, coma, disorientation, tremors, hallucinations, wide mood swings, low blood pressure, unconsciousness, and/or death. There are more than 80 slang terms for GHB. Among them are woman’s Viagra, liquid ecstasy, blue nitro, salty water, everclear, and Georgia homebody and soap. The most terrifying thing about GHB is how quickly it can kill a user. Within 15 minutes after taking the drug, there’s a high possibility of a loss of consciousness or coma, Breathing can slow to only 4 to 6 breaths per minute. Some signs of GHB overdose are confusion, dizziness, vomiting, slurred speech, limp body, passing out and many others. GHB is sometimes called the date rape drug because it can incapacitate the victim, cause memory lapses or unconsciousness. GHB
