One such conflict was the draft the caused mayhem in New York City. Riots broke out in the city and people were out of control for about a week. The riots mostly started because of the unfair treatment the lower class dealt with which ultimately led to the breakout of riots in New York City in 1863. Abraham Lincoln called for a draft because troops were needed to fight in the Civil War and many people disliked
Back during the Scarlett Letter, townspeople didn’t have that option due to the lack of technology. Instead, what they would do to inform citizens of the crime is walk around and verbally invite them to the scaffold, and let them witness from there. If an individual wasn’t able to attend, they would have to find out a different way. Public awareness wasn’t broad back then, unlike today where we have all the technology, and even the simplest things to inform
He says that the sole purpose of the academy is “to protect the department from the legal liability that could result from negligent training” (22). He explains how the academy never really did teach him anything about how to be a good officer rather. The academy is explained by one officer as “no wonder that’s how cops are out there [rude to people]. They demean us. They break us down.
Criminals usually plan out and act upon the scenario in a time when they’re not being followed and during the scenario they are not available; Wiggims was nowhere to be heard of or seen, therefore he is a suspect. As the Chief you are authorized to be in control of society, protect it and follow the higher authorization person(s). The Mayor of Springfield, Quimby, told the Police to “take out Burns,” and clearly chief Wiggims is once against suspected because of his authority as a police offer. The little time before and after the shooting, Chief Wiggims told Jimbo Jones to stay away from the statue near the parking lot (where Mr.Burns was shot near the Simpsons car) because he was loitering and during that time it can be safely assumed that Wiggims had committed the crime, got rid of evidence (jimbo Jones) and may have had some cause to leave bloodstains on the Simpsons car. After all the person who was not at the shooting, and was responsible for the case being Wiggims would be a great idea due to the authority(Chief Wiggims), power(Quimby) and the gun that had made the sound when shot.
When that didn’t work and it became clear that they were not going to disperse, at around 12:24 pm 77 National Guard members fired 67 rounds from M1 Garand rifles into the croud killing 4 and wounding 9 others, thus violently ending the protests. What’s even worse is that two of the students killed had not even been involved in the protest they were just walking to class and had gotten caught in the crossfire. This had a major impact on other campuses and nation wide. It caused an estimated 450 other campuses to stop protesting worldwide and it also got world wide press, their was even a song written about it. it was a tragic event that happened to people who only stand up against what they believed was wrong and tried to make a
In the end, 288 businesses worth an estimated $200 million were looted and destroyed. Over 35,000 African Americans participated in the riot, and over 16,000 National Guardsmen, county and city police were needed to shut it down. Political leaders such as MLK Jr. and John Conyers Jr. visited Watts to try to calm the people and both were booed. John Conyers Jr. was actually hustled to a waiting vehicle for his

The Riot within Rodney King was an unforgettable experience and possibly incurable in the heart of some Americans. My mother was fourteen years old when she began to fear the streets of Los
