The Treatment of Females in Genesis The author of Genesis depicts females as an evil in the world. They are a curse to mankind, but they also serve other purposes. The author uses females as a way of explaining why things work the way they do and explaining why certain things happen in life. According to Genesis, the first woman that God creates is named Eve. Already females are seen as unequal when it is learned that Eve was made second behind Adam. More importantly, she was made from Adam’s rib. This leads to the impression that there cannot be a woman without a man, that man is more important because he was first, and that females are inferior to males. Right away the author is letting us know that females are just the result of man and that they are less important. The reason that God creates Eve is for one purpose only, to be Adam’s mate and companion. Females seem to serve no other purpose than to satisfy males. This is setting females up for failure from the moment they are born because they are not supposed to do anything else.…show more content…
That one is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. When Eve comes along, Adam gives her the same advice. But because females, according to the author, are not intelligent or trustworthy, Eve fails in staying away from the tree. The serpent is the one responsible for tricking Eve. He tells her that the only reason God doesn’t want them to eat from that tree is because he doesn’t want anybody to gain knowledge of things. Eve falls prey to the serpent’s trickery and eats the fruit from the tree. Apparently, only females are capable of being tricked as Eve was. Adam also eats because Eve gave him some of the fruit to eat with
