Caleb’s anger gets the best of him and he brings Aron to see their mother Kate, the owner of the whorehouse. Aron is so hurt by this he runs off to the army as a suicide attempt. Caleb blames himself. He only forgives himself when his father, on his deathbed, says to him the word Timshel, the “two-word translation,”…”Thou mayest.”
One time in the very beginning of the story Elgin goes to visit Christine in the hospital, Rayona had not seen him in 5 months and Christine did not want to tell him about her sickness. Christine and Elgin get into a huge fight and yells at her husband to go back to his little black girl. (Dorris 7) “Forget us. Who needs you anyway” (Dorris 7). Christine collapses into the pillows and waits for Elgin to respond and expects him to say sorry but he doesn’t.
Then when she grows up she has a baby and Madame Valmonde goes to visit her and her baby. Armand, being a slave owner when realizes that the baby is not white meaning that Desiree is not white he tells her to leave the house. Desiree feels sad and desperate because of the situation and writes to her mom for help. She tells Desiree to come home with her baby. Later on, Armand burns anything that belongs to Desiree and feels like he doesn’t love her anymore just because the shame she brought to his family.
When Marie, the housekeeper that David loves, gets sick, his parents ask his dad`s brother, Dr. Hayden, to tend to her. Marie shouts, “Mrs.! Mrs.!” and “No! Mrs.!” (28:6) and his parents learn that David`s Uncle Frank have been molesting and raping Indian women all of his life. Although Marie has a serious cold, she also uses her weak voice to protest being checked by Uncle Hayden alone.
Kristina and her boyfriend finally get an apartment together and the also move in Kristina’s son, against her mother’s wishes. Things are very tense in the tiny apartment due to a shortage of meth and the lack of income and it finally peaks one night when Kristina and Trey are especially irritable and it ends in a physical confrontation and Kristina calls her mother to take the baby back home with
In response to the breaking of the teacup Nana calls Mariam a harami or bastard. Mariam describes her encounters with Jalil, her father, and how he treats her with love and compassion. Throughout this chapter Nana seems to be very negative about everything. She says that every story that Jalil has told Mariam it not real and she thinks that she and Mariam would be better off dead. Chapter 2 Nana describes her side of the birth of Mariam.
He physically and mentally abuses Delia, takes her income while failing to make his own, and has an affair on the side. Despite being out of work, for three months he has paid his mistress Bertha's rent. Sykes brings negativity to his relationship with Delia, and tries to poison her with a rattlesnake. Tired of Delia and seeking out freedom with his "portly" mistress Bertha, Sykes hatches a plan to poison Delia by planting a rattlesnake in her washing clothes, but the plan backfires after he is fatally bitten in the neck. After Sykes is bitten in the neck by the rattlesnake, Delia sits under a chinaberry tree while hearing the distant moaning and wailing of Sykes.
Many events in the book were very sad and touching when Foster the main girl in the story keeps a pillow case just with her dads stuff in there after he died in the army, she lives with her mom and her boyfriend named Huck who isn’t as nice to Foster at most times making her call him Elvis thinking of himself as a really good singer making Fosters mom the backstage singer and some days he even hits her mom at times and finally one day they get into a fight making Huck break into their house and hitting her mom so badly that they have to run away from their house very fast finding a safe place with Huck coming behind them with his car chasing them and soon they outrun him and arrive to West Virginia. Foster a 12 year old girl with a huge love for baking can bake almost anything possible to bake but she only has one problem she can’t read at all when she starts “it’s like my brain starts to close
Lara Olson English 10 Seminar Mrs. Zavacki 20 March 2012 Almost everyone in the world knows about the Holocaust and how it ruined the lives of many. But no one knows the real horror brought upon the survivors until you read their true stories. The rude awakening of the memoir Night and the poem “Aftermath” show that even the kindest people can lose their sense of virtuous direction. Wiesel’s story about his experiences at the concentration camps grew more heartbreaking to read with every word. Wiesel wrote about how horrible it seemed to lose one’s innocence.
Morality aside, she “[walks] through her husband as if he were a ghost” (26), completely disregarding his emotions. Another example of adultery in the novel is Gatsby’s relationship with the married Daisy Buchanan.
