GE’s contribution to Management Introduction We will talk about the General Electric’s sucess, and especially regarding their evolution in workers management. Let us first introduce a bit of GE’s history with its creator : Mr. Thomas Edison. 1876 was the year that Thomas Alva Edison opened a laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey, where he could explore the possibilities of the dynamo and other electrical devices that he had seen in the Exposition. Out of that laboratory was to come perhaps the greatest invention of the age - a successful incandescent electric lamp. By 1890, Edison established the Edison General Electric Company by bringing his various businesses together. We will now develop the new innovations in management wich follow or not the different perspectives created by the classical authors. I. Various management through the last century We will see that the company has been taken a few ideas and strategies of the classic management, organizational, behavioral, .Scientific Management & administrative Management… But they have also developed their own management tools and uses to run the business the most efficiently. The evolution of management will be explained below. II. Innovations through General Electric company A. Management style between 1878 - 1930 To begin with, we will analyze the organization of GE’s company from its opening to the year 1930. While reading about GE’s company, we can see that different management perspectives were present since the firm opening: Foundation to a leader company As Adam Smith was regarding the organization theory, Thomas Edison has been the founder of a private stock company, General Electric.
