GENDER INCLUSION IN ADAPTATION OF CLIMATE CHANGE Abstract: The purpose of my short paper is to bring out often-neglected facts about importance of the gender issues inclusion in the adaptation of climate change. The short paper will points to how inclusion of gender issues can be crucial in addressing climate change and in enhancing the opportunities of all human beings to enjoy sustainable development. Given that women are engaged in more climate related change activities than what is recognized and valued in the community, so my paper will provide highlights on their important role in the adaptation and search for safer communities, which leads them to understand better the causes and consequences of changes in climatic conditions. So my paper will be talking about how important knowledge and skills of women for orienting the adaptation processes can be important, if roles of them in a society are properly recognized. With the increasing threat of drastic changes in climatic pattern termed as “Climate Change”, importance of consideration of gender has been talked issue around the Globe. Climate Change has made the search for livelihoods tougher, created greater food insecurity, caused sharp declines in the quality of life, and triggered mass migrations. Although the hazards associated with Climate Change have different impacts in societies all over the world, it is important to recognize that they have different effect on men and women as well. So gender as a factor for vulnerability to the climate change has become one of the most prominent issues in today’s context. In many parts of the world, women constitute the population most vulnerable to Climate Change, due to certain inequitable conditions and situations that place them at risk (Enarson, 2000) .
