It is almost certain that the recent changes in western culture concerning attitudes towards women are affecting Africa in an important way. The subject of women liberation has become a major issue in the world. The church is aware of this and great changes have taken place in churches and church policies in the west. Such issue as whether or not women should be ordained in the ministry or should be church leaders and elders are serious issues in the west and has now come to Africa. In this paper we will explore the following: • The Definition of Key Terms • The Concept Gender Discrimination. • Gender Discrimination in the Church: a Myth or Reality. • The Secular View • The Biblical View Definition of Key Terms In our discussion it will be of paramount importance to know the meaning of key term which is gender and discrimination. Gender Gender refers to the identification of the sexes usually influenced by cultural factors like religion, politics social factors and education. In developmental discourses gender, more specially, refers to women or the female sex. Gender differentiation will therefore, involved a set of expectations of people’s abilities and potentials days on their sex.
