Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviors, activities,and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and for women. Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women such as breasts, testicales, menstration, hormones , and men normally have a higher amount of bone mass. Gender is put into “masculine” and “feminine” categories while sex is put into “male” and “female”categories. How do gender and sex contribute to the concepts and constructions of masculinity and femininity? Gender and sex have so much to do with masculinity and femininity. Like I said above [Gender is put into “masculine” and “feminine” categories while sex is put into “male” and “female”categories.] Males are considered masculine because they are “rough and tough” and females are considered feminine because of history and women having to act like a “proper lady”. Yes I think our concepts of gender and sex contribute very much to the ways we embrace gender and sex in diversity. I think it has a lot to do with why we think some jobs are for women and some jobs are for men. For example the saying “women should be in the kitchen bare foot and pregnant”.
