Some may doubt the hazards of performing my experimental task, but by the end of this report no one will ever want to follow my footsteps again. My vast experience in the field (pun intended) has revealed the inherent treacheries of athletic participation. Children must NOT be allowed to play sports. If you want a stone cold reason not to pursue sports, reflect on the misfortunate male population of the 1800’s. It hurts me to say it, but 100% of male athletes from that century are now deceased.
Then they decide on having another child who born with genetic modification. After that, Vincent’s stronger brother, Anton was born. Day by day, Vincent grows up and he looks very nerdy with glasses, high-riding baggy shorts. He thinks that he is not a part of his family and his father rejects him for Anton. Vincent was very insecure and disappointed because his parents had no faith in him.
Christopher Harris AP BIO October 31st, 2009 In the movie Gattaca, there are many attitudes toward the idea that one’s genes can determineone’s future. The two main characters, Vincent and Irene, have two contrasting ideas about genes and fate. Vincent believes genes do not foresee someone’s future, even stating that “there is nogene for fate.” He believes anyone can succeed in life whether they are superior in health or crippled. When Vincent was younger, he used to race his older “valid” brother Anton in the water. Anton beat Vincent every time until one day Vincent was able to beat him.
However, when Vincent bests his brother one day an emphasis is placed on the manner in which he beat his brother. “You wanna know how I did it? I never saved anything for the swim back!” This creates the impression to the viewer that Vincent did not win with superior stamina, skill or physical strength, rather he won as he possessed traits like courage, determination and grit, traits that are lost in the geno-centric society in which he loves but traits that are valued and admired in todays society. The text can be seen as parallel to today’s society as often it is those who are
Anton always won. Finally, he won the swim one day and had to save his brother from drowning. Vincent tired of his life and went into major training after a game of chicken where he bet Anton. He changed his lifestyle and built up his stamina and body. Afterwards, he left home.
For example, I am a swimmer and we swimmers have bad races and great races. When we perform poorly, it’s our decision to beat yourself about it or ignore it and know that you’ll do better next time. “When you’re screwing up, and nobody is saying anything to you anymore, that means they gave up.” Pausch’s football coach’s assistant said this to him and my coach as well. My coach will always push me and I said, “Why are you so hard on me?” and she said, “Because you have potential and I care how you perform.” “Brick walls are there for a reason, they let us prove how badly we want something.” Is what Pausch said when he cam

At birth Vincent’s cause of death and life expectancy is already predetermined through a small sample of his blood. “Heart condition, 99 percent probability. Early fatal potential. Life expectancy 30.2 years”. But Vincent over comes these odds of failure and lack of perfection and tells Irene the truth of his inferior identity “my name is Vincent, alright?
All those breaks and naps cost the hare his victory. At the end the tortoise said to the hare, making him think long and hard, “Slow and steady always wins the race.” The moral of this myth is to teach you that if you move at a steady pace and continue to move forward you will succeed. You must also have faith in yourself and believe you will succeed. However, do not be boastful about yourself and your accomplishments. You can very well be proud without being overbearing and rude.
‘Gattaca’ doesn’t condemn the genetic experimentation itself, but it condemning the way it is used, and why it is used. Even though the genetic engineering can save the lives of the people, it is used blindly and the reason for using it is wrong. It doesn’t better people personality, it rather makes more selfish and narrow minded. According to the society of ‘Gattaca’ science means everything, it cannot be flawed and will always be accurate, but as shown in the film Vincent prevails science and reaches his dream. People rely on DNA and science too much, which could potently corrupt our society.
