Trees bend and buckle under the burden of Winter’s bounty. A snow hare runs underfoot, unafraid and unfamiliar with the strange creature that has perturbed his home. Birds chirp sparsely, at least those who remain. The aroma of the land is captivating, with the distinct smell of spring soon approaching and a scent of pine that lingers in the air. Each breath drawn brings a perceptible chill to the nostrils.
Chodea was a bear that roamed around the forests in Greece, so mighty that any warrior that dared to attack him was slaughtered within mere moments of the beginning of the fight. Chodea roared the mightiest of roars that could be heard from miles away, and was nearly deafening when heard close up. Chodea was basically the Floyd Mayweather of bears, as neither of them could read, and they were both undefeated in battle. Until one day, a glorious warrior decided to engage in battle with the great Chodea. This warriors name was Rollius.
My First Elk Hunting Trip by Colin Hillmer It was a cold day in the mountains of Colorado. I was hunting for big elk. The air was moist like it was going to rain soon. As I sat and looked out my spotting scope I saw a herd of elk a mile away. It felt awesome to see my first herd of elk.
A couple days later, Buck encountered a pack of wolves. Frightened at first, the wolves started attacking Buck, but every wolf that attacked him was attacked right back. After the fighting was over, Buck noticed his wild brother, who then introduced him to the old wolf. When they met up, the wolves started howling and Buck realized that they were who he was supposed to be with, and he started howling too. Right after they were down howling they ran into the forest and Buck was right behind them.
Largest in North America, the gray wolf can range in different colors depending on which forest of Tundra they range upon. They can live up to ten to eighteen years and average the length of 102-163 cm. An adult may even weigh in up to 85-115 pounds, but smaller is the female weighing 50 to 100 pounds. Considered the world’s most natural villain, the gray wolf has rarely ever attacked humans. However, they may take it upon them to attack our everyday domesticated animals like our dogs, rabbits, cats, or even our livestock, which can cause tragedy because then they are trapped and shot.
The population exploded at this point like it never had before. From 4,759 in 1870 as the railroads were putting up their last spikes to 35,689 in 1880. This allowed for Denver to the three prerequisites for a “Jacksonian dream of a commercial empire in the heart of the continent.” Denver now had control of trade routes in its geographic region, a flourishing commerce system, and a number of viable natural resources to tap into. In the 1870’s Denver had railroads protruding out in every direction, securing its position further. The Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad brought the railroad to the front doorstep of mines in the mountains allowing for resources to flow without the cumbersome stagecoach presents.
A few beers later and we were ready to hit the hay to take on the next day. I ended up driving back to Parsons with my Aunt, Uncle and cousin because my grandparents had no vacancy at their house. Before leaving, my cousin and I grabbed our rifles so that we could head straight to the field the next morning. I was very anxious, excited, and nervous; therefore, I got little sleep that night. I’ve been hunting deer for almost a decade and never once have I had the opportunity to shoot an eye-dropping trophy buck.
