Would you recommend it to others? Garcinia Cambogia supplements are rising in popularity and have been hailed by many celebrities as the new “it” when it comes to losing weight. Even Dr. Oz is touting the miraculous effects of Garcinia Cambogia. He has referred to it as the “holy grail of weightloss.” However, what exactly is it, what does it do, and is there any scientific evidence to back it up? Multiple clinical studies have been done on this weight-loss supplement, however, in humans the study results are mixed. There is also, no conclusive evidence to support its long term use (longer than 12 weeks). Garcinia Supplement Information Garcinia Cambogia is a plant native to Indonesia, Southeast Asia, West and Central Africa. Its fruit is about the size of an apple and resembles a small pumpkin. Its colors range from shades of purple, red, green, or yellow. The extract of this fruit is high in Hydroxycitric Acid, more commonly known as HCA. This is supposed to be what gives Garcinia Cambogia extract its potential weight loss properties. There are several nutritional supplements on the market that contain Garcinia Cambogia extract. The Garcinia Cambogia extract supplements are mostly advertised as HCA, calcium- potassium salt of HCA, or various other formulations mentioning the Hydroxycitrate Acid. The actual amount of the Garcinia Cambogia extract actually containing HCA is questionable, because this supplement is not FDA regulated.
