What is a Fish and Game Warden? Fish and Game Wardens are state or local officials that enforce laws pertaining to hunting, fishing, and trapping of wild animals. They are employed by the state or the federal government and are typically thought of as law enforcement officers. Job Duties 1) The primary responsibility of a warden is to enforce the fish and wildlife code of their state and enforce all boating, hunting, fishing, and trapping laws, as well as all pertaining federal laws. 2) Fish and game wardens are required to regularly patrol areas and observe people who they suspect may be breaking fish and game laws. Laws such as: licensing requirements Driving, boating, and hunting under the influence of alcohol or drugs Individuals who have broken laws may be cited while others may be arrested. 3) Fish and game wardens confiscate equipment that has been used in connection with any violations. Equipment such as: firearms, vehicles, watercraft, fishing equipment Game wardens have very broad authority, however they can perform a search or confiscate equipment w/o a warrant in some instances that regular law enforces need to obtain a warrant for. 4) -They investigate claims that property was damaged by wildlife or by violators of wildlife conservation laws - investigate any homicides related to hunting. - investigate and use DNA, fingerprinting, and other evidence to prosecute criminals that illegally kill wildlife Work Conditions 1) Work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions. 2) Areas they patrol include lakes, rivers, mountains, deserts, forests, or beaches. -They patrol these areas by helicopter, boat, horseback,off-road vehicles, or by walking. 3) Occasionally they may need to handle animals and run the risk of bites or scratches. 4) Wear a uniform and carry a firearm 5) Hours may
