Many Indians have benefited greatly from Indian casinos while some can barely make ends meet. The opportunity to operate an Indian casino should be regulated and used correctly, not banned because of misuse. In dispute over what is right, Time magazine and the Native American Times produced articles trying to justify the situation, which propose different views on the gaming issue. In opposition of Indian casinos an article was posted in Time magazine on December 16, 2007. This article was written by Donald L. Barlett and James B Steele.
Alexandra Vilents Drinking age limit: Does The Current Policy Make Sense? & Drinking age and its relationship to today's economy downfall. Isn’t kind of humorous how you can do all these different things, like get married, buy lottery tickets, smoke cigarettes, when you turn eighteen but you can’t purchase alcohol, let alone consume alcohol. When you turn eighteen you are able to go out and buy cigarettes and smoke them; you can start buying scratch tickets and gambling at some casinos; you can even go and serve your country in times of war in the U.S. military. I often wonder why the drinking age is not eighteen.
Don’t get me wrong I do agree that there should be an age requirement on alcoholic beverages however not at the age of 21. The fact that teenagers become adults at the age of eighteen proves that purchasing and consuming alcohol should be part of being “an adult.” At the age of eighteen one is deemed an adult and with this comes benefits and great responsibility. As an adult you are able to drive, attend college purchase cigarettes, vote, fight for you country, apply for social security, go to jail, and most importantly you are no longer your parents responsibity. Because of all these responsibilities. I believe that purchasing and consuming alcohol should be added to this long list of things.
They cannot take them away. They can, however, put some restrictions on them (gun control laws, for instance). This is not an infringement of the right, it is making an adjustment that will insure the safety of the citizens of this country. The only time it is acceptable to strip someone of their rights is when they are behind bars. When you are convicted of a crime, you are no longer a member of society; therefore, you have no rights".
Ethical Problems of Gambling Cierra Allen SOC 120 Ethics and Social Responsibility Prof. Linda Atkinson April 9, 2010 Some people consider gambling to be a big problem financially and emotionally while others that have the gambling problem think it is just something to do or just a hobby. Gambling to me is as much of a problem as alcoholism and drug addiction. Gambling is something that cannot be looked over nor can it be stopped without any problems. There are many different ways to gamble, some people like to go to casinos, others like to bet on football, basketball, or baseball games; plenty gamble online, some shoot dice or play cards in the privacy of their own homes. Then you have some that are such big gamblers that they bet their homes, cars and empty their bank accounts to feed the addiction that they have.
So why can’t they enjoy a few beers legally? That is the question asked by many and has yet an exact and final answer on whether it will be allowed. According to David J. Hanson, an alcohol policy expert at the State University of New York-Potsdam, “Raising the drinking age to 21 was passed with the very best of intentions, but it’s had the very worst of outcomes” (Johnson, 1). Drinking in young people is becoming a serious problem as days move on, but having the drinking age at 21 is not helping solve these problems. Something
Should there be end to the “Lotto”? Throughout North America, the lottery is played in many states. “Gambling” is something you hear about in cities such as Las Vegas or Atlantic City, but it’s often participated in every area for different reasons like sports games. In some way, somebody out there is making money off of lottery and gambling, and through that becomes and addiction that many people can’t seem to stop. Addiction to gambling and the lottery can be a negative in people’s lives.
Gambling addiction, also known as compulsive gambling, has become a big issue in today’s society. It can vary from making a simple bet of a dollar with a friend to going to the casinos and putting hundreds to thousands of dollars into the machines to play “games”. While most people are at it for fun, there are people that do it because they think they need to (problem gambling). These people will do anything they can in order to gamble, which can lead to negative consequences for him/herself and the community. As of now, there are only two states that do not allow any type of gambling.
The legal drinking age should be lowered to 18 because most teens under 21 drink anyways. When you turn 18, you get tons of privileges, you are already considered as an adult. Which is worse for an 18 year old?
It has been said that prior to casinos, Atlantic City used to be the slum by the sea, and now it is the slum by the sea with casinos. The areas around casinos in Atlantic City are thriving, but unlike Las Vegas, Atlantic City has neglected the rest of the city and has not put the effort for the revitalization of the rest of the city. An example of this is Atlantic City does not compliment surrounding businesses like restaurants. Why would you go outside of the casino to eat when the casino has restaurants inside that will even bring your food to you at the slots or tables? A full accounting of the costs must be done and it is difficult.
