A young fifteen year old dies in a car accident; her life ends when it was supposed to begin. Gabreielle Zevin’s Elsewhere is about Elizabeth Marie Hall who had this happen to her, and the book is split into three parts to understand her story better and clearer. The prologue which focuses on Liz’s dog, the epilogue which focuses on her last moments and the three parts of the story which focus on her life after death, are crucial to the understanding of Elisabeth’s life story. The prologue is very important to the way the story is set up, and it contains important information about the story. For example, it shows how an animal feels when a human dies in the story, aside from how other humans feel. Liz’s dog Lucy states the Liz’s parents had said that the accident was quick, painless, and it ended quickly, but Lucy wonders how they know if it was quick and painless because they…show more content…
For example, it ends the story by being a resolution. Since Liz is now reborn, she won’t remember her past life as Liz anymore, she’ll be a completely different person. Also, she’ll get to live her life differently and she will get to do different things because she has a different family. As well as that instance, the epilogue states that she will have a fresh start. Since Liz doesn’t remember her past life, she can make better decisions than she did before , based on pure judgment. She will also learn to love her new family as well because she no longer knows her parents, Alvy, or Lucy. To conclude, if she’s careful Liz will get to live her life after fifteen like she’s always wanted. Liz will be able to go to prom like she’s always wanted, but with different friends because Zooey will be much older now and the two of them don’t know each other anymore.
