“Future Shock” First of all, I am overwhelmed to the author of the book Future Shock; Alvin Toffler for he has indeed foresee the things that are about to happen in the world some 4 decades ago had passed. The thing that struck me is how fast technology had taken the world into storm and how impermanent man’s needs are. Alvin Toffler even described “Technology as the major force behind the accelerative thrust that the world is experiencing now.” As a result of the rapid change of Technology, man’s relationship with things had become transitory for man’s satisfaction has become infinite until there are resources and knowledge available; man will utilize it. The throw-away culture that we have seen was part of man’s assertion to keep things fast so that it could cope up with Technology that is why as the book states “people of the future live faster than people of the past.” Nowadays, changes are everywhere and can be seen anywhere from buildings being constructed, houses, various forms of technological advancement and a lot more areas that we could simply say that have change. Also, the Industrial Revolution that had taken place during the 19th Century could also be one of the reasons why we have consumed almost half of our energy. Electricity and fuel were both discovered by man in the 19th century. The Industrial Revolution was indeed a milestone for man as we have reached the full potential of this planet thus giving way to industrialization which provides almost all of the economic growth that the world has now been experiencing.
