For over 30 years, Iran and America have had a long strained relationships because of ancient history from past leaders. As NPR staff stated, “. . . talk between Obama and Rouhani was greeted with hope and deep skepticism, born from three decades of bad blood, mistakes and sometimes outraged aggression.” Now that an eternity of silence involving both countries has been broken, they can move forward to finally reach peace. There are various reasons for both countries to meet halfway; Iranians suffered, and are currently suffering racism or discrimination, a new Iranian President was recently elected, and working together as diplomatic relations. In 1979 when Iranians took Americans as hostages they did not only affect those Americans being held hostage, the scarce amount of Iranians living in America as well. A clear example is stated in the chapter Iranians Need Not Apply, “As he was settling into his new job a group of Americans in Tehran were taken hostage in the American embassy. My father was laid off.” (Dumas,117) After the 444 days that they were kidnapped, the racism and discrimination towards Iranians living in America did not stop. They have continued to pay for something that they had nothing to do with. If the Iranian President and the American President come to an agreement towards peace, the racism towards Iranians living in America might actually decrease. Since Hassan Rouhani’s recent election in 2013, Iran and America have a possibility of moving beyond there difficult history. As Barack Obama, the United States President, stated “A path to a meaningful agreement wull be difficult,’ Obama acknowledged. ‘And at this point, both sides have significant concerns that will have to be overcome. But I believe we’ve got a responsibility to pursue diplomacy and that we have a unique opportunity to make progress with the new leadership in
