The most senior members are the prime minister, secretaries of state, Ministers of state and parliamentary under-secretaries. The Prime minister has the duty of being in charge and selects the other members of government. There are many important departments in central government and they all are crucial but are different roles in controlling the country. The departments include home office and department of health, but also involve sport and media and the department of culture. These departments are ruled by Secretaries state that has complete liability and are staffed by impartial civil servants who get their income from money provided by parliament.
A) What do you understand by the term ‘representative’ democracy? Representative democracy is where citizens elect representatives (MPs) on behalf of the majority to make decisions for them and formulate legislations. It's practical and it allows for people's views to be put into consideration, however, representatives are not bound and can go against the majority. For example; the UK is a representative democracy because citizens elect a representative party for with an appointed leader which make decisions on their behalf, the majority electorate elects the Prime Minister and his party in power to make legislation for the country. B) What are the principle features of democracy in the UK?
In the United States, surveys has been the something we could rely on to predict and determine political polls. The media has the power to provide us information about what is happening throughout the election process of who is running, winning, or other important details. Most of the citizens and government officials in our state, stated that the United States does not pay much of attention about polling. Sometimes, the political polls do not accurately represent the views on population either. However, I do believe that polls are inaccurate because of certain reasons and supports that has been talked about by specific people who knows a lot about polling.
Backbench MPs, those whom are elected to parliament but not in Government, cabinet or shadow cabinet, are all elected by their constituents, Those who vote for the MP within his/her constituency, and are expected to represent them under our representative democracy we have in the UK, but the constituents no aren’t first priority. There are three models that MPs may follow the first and what in recent years has taken precedence for the ministers is the Mandate model. In this model the MP is expected to do as his party says and support all plans his/her party has. This may or may not be an issue, many of the electorate now vote simply for the party not the person and the majority won’t even know their MPs name, they may read the party manifesto and decide to vote for they party and through this model that means that the MP will support all points within the manifesto and so the public don’t need to know about the MP. So why are the MPs following this and acting as a sheep?
This also tied in with the case because in the beginning Torricelli was accepting campaign gifts from a contributor which in the PAC is not permitted if the donation of corporate gifts is given to any political politician, it must come from individuals. This is also called the “temptation rule” and could have
"William Safire, in his Safire's Political Dictionary, defines "machine politics" as "the election of officials and the passage of legislation through the power of an organization created for political action." Hierarchy and discipline are hallmarks of political machines. "It generally means strict organization", (Safire ,1). The machine here is of course a political machine which by definition in US politics is a party organization headed by a single boss or small autocratic group, that commands enough votes to maintain political and administrative control of a city, county or state. In his Political Dictionary William Safire defines “Machine Politics” as the election of officials and the passage of legislation through the power of an organization created for political action.

Justin Canteen 11/24/2012 American National Government Lobbyist What is a lobbyist and what is it that they do? According to Rachel Cooper “A lobbyist is an activist who seeks to persuade members of the government (like members of Congress) to enact legislation that would benefit their group. The lobbying profession is a legitimate and integral part of our democratic political process that is not very well understood by the general population. While most people think of lobbyists only as paid professionals, there are also many volunteer lobbyists. Anyone who petitions the government or contacts their member of Congress to voice an opinion is functioning as a lobbyist.
