“From beginning to end” By: Erika Ray Humans are mysterious creatures. From the time we are born we are learning, understanding, and analyzing questions and behaviors studied sense ancient philosophers. As we grow we go through and experience things that gather the answers to “Why we are, the way we are.” Being the curious creatures we are philosophers before us wanted to know why we behaved and thought certain ways. This is called psychology, the science of behavior and mental processes. One of the majors I have considered is that of a mortician and I feel the study of psychology would greatly benefit me in dealing with the multitude of human emotions that death can bring. Majoring in mortuary sciences can bring an array of emotions and behaviors for someone in that field. Tasks of being a mortician consist of handling the paperwork, all the way to embalming the corpses and it honestly takes a special mindset to be able to do this job. An individuals approach to dying is linked to the amount of meaning and purpose a person has found throughout their lifetime. There are also five stages that humans go through while mourning a loss. For example the first stage is denial. Denial is a defense we use to help us cope with the situation where we block out facts and refuse to accept what is going on around us. As someone who will be dealing with emotional roller coasters you have to understand that there is no right or wrong way to cope and it also has no time limit it merely depends on the person. Although the job circulates around death, and emotions it can be a very rewarding job. Bringing emotional support to the families that you see can bring comfort knowing that you are doing the best you can to help these families cope with the situation they are in. It even brings a lot of social interaction along with it which is a bonus since humans are very social
