Frog pond Make a summary of the text Althea is a 13-year-old girl who lives in an isolated society, with people who has fled away from the problems in the big cities. The people, from the small society Althea lives in, commonly refer to her as Thorny. One bright morning, Thorny is down at the creek doing a little frogging, when a stranger, who calls himself Stan, comes tumbling down the bank. Stan seems very nervous, almost as if he is on the run from someone. Thorny and Stan have a long conversation, and he tells Thorny that he is recruiting people to help him taking down ‘The System’, which is present in the big cities. Throughout their conversation, Stan realizes that the people from this society is a lot better informed about how things works than he first imagined. That is because Mr. Wainwright teaches the pupils about society and Mr. Thompson teaches biology, which is two very relevant subjects in this world. Furthermore Stan sees how polluted the creek is, and that the trees have changed color, but they are still alive. Thorny also tells him that she eats frogs, and he is really freaked out by this, but the straw that broke the camel’s back is that Thorny has been born with nictitating membranes. All this is too much for Stan, and he runs off screaming “Mutants”. The story takes place in a world where something clearly has gone wrong, which majorly has affected the environment. We hear about how many of the trees has died and that there is so much smog, that you do not even realize that it is there.
