Throughout the novel the weather changes reflecting the mood and atmosphere of the characters. This is first evident on the day that Gatsby is planned to meet with Daisy; it is raining prior to the meeting. In this situation, the rain represents both a melancholy mood and an anxious mood. Gatsby at first doubt himself in asking Nick to do this favor for him and the rain reflects the fact that he is unsure of himself. However, when Gatsby and Daisy rekindle their friendship and love, the weather clears up and becomes sunny and beautiful.
Their lyrics are amazing and so true. One of my favorite lyrics is “you know that accidents can happen, and it’s okay, we all fall off the wagon sometimes it’s not you’re whole life, it’s only one day, you haven’t thrown everything away.” That lyric means everything to me. It’s also my motivation. It brought me closer to my family and friends. It reminds me that even though I make mistakes, like huge mistakes, that things will get better.
Dandelions are also known to be happy flowers so this sets the mood in a more soothing and calming place. The poet also uses imagery to lighten the mood up. “And a jumble of skirts spilled onto the ploughed grass,” could be portrayed in a mental image of the clothes scattering around from the laundry truck. It makes the mood less tense because instead of rather describing the horrible images of the accident, the poet decides to describe the little details of it. There was also an internal rhyme in that line which was “skirts and shirts”.
Unfortunately for Mr. Franz his 81 and widowed but, McCandless is trying to cheer him up. When you have friends that are there for you and care for you, it brings a great feeling of joy within your mind and soul. Even though you’re 81 and widowed, does that mean you’re going to live sad and depressed your whole life? Absolutely not! There are many ways a person can enjoy themselves.
He also implies of a life that he seems to find happiness and contentment with. He writes, “In the midst of the heat and slow time the music brought the promise of its origins, a promise of deliverance, a promise that if only for a moment, life could be stirring and dreamy” (17). Rose shows that the little things in life can give people hope and bring a little sunshine on a cloudy day. Rose discusses the hardships that were faced after immigrating to the United States and the positive aspects of finding your own little piece of happiness in the midst of despair. I can relate to both of these on a personal basis.
As X hears her speak in her sophisticated vocabulary he is entranced that a girl so young can speak so well. Her dialogue, although mature, still represents youth and happiness and generally makes the reader feel good, considering the mood. Taking place on a rainy day, in the middle of an intense war results in a rather dismal mood for the story and every little moment that mentions the slightest happy thought provides the most minor uplifting. Sergeant X’s dialogue is a little more rough and masculine yet still gives the
Many people, especially in today’s society, get caught up in materialism and forget some of the things that matter. Cormac McCarthy and John Grady Cole value simplicity and their lives reflect their idea of living a simple life. Cormac McCarthy has the ability to live a wealthy lifestyle, yet he chooses a different route. “Aware that gifted American writers don’t have to endure the kind of neglect and hardship that have been his, McCarthy has chosen to be hardheaded about the terms of his success…he seems immensely proved to be the kind of writer who has almost ceased to exist” (Woodward 8). McCarthy is satisfied with living conditions that some would consider rather poor.
Sabrin Abedin Mikhail Lipinsikay Course: Comparative Literature 102W Lesson Learned Through Social Suffering: A Little Too Late From the book, The Path, Mr. Prophet quotes, “Suffering is in the grand scheme of things. It is meant to teach a lesson. Sometimes it takes a lot of repeating until the lesson is learned. Both good and bad people reap the benefits of the sunshine. Both good and bad people receive rain for their crops.
The narrator, Ruri, is frightened throughout the story and it shows that through the tone of the story. The poem, ”I, Too”, shows America as a place where people don’t always choose to do the right thing but that doesn’t mean people are necessarily evil. The narrator is proud that one-day people will respect him more. Finally in the poem, “Chinese Hot Pot” America
Meg McClintock Mr. Kyzer December 3, 2008 English 12 The Unseen Unhappiness The novel Brave New World shows a world in which a utopian society promotes everyone to be happy and at peace, this is not always the case. There are at least three characters in the novel who present a state of unhappiness, and who want more than they have in their perfect world. Lenina Crowne, Helmholtz Watson, and Bernard Marx all show evidence of being unhappy. The society in Brave New World forces them in to a state of unhappiness which they cannot escape. Lenina Crowne is one of the main characters in the novel, and her thoughts and actions promote one to believe she is unhappy.
